Bangkok
Thailand, in the heart of Southeast Asia, was never colonized and thus kept its unique culture and heritage intact. Bangkok offers visitors the opportunity to experience fascinating glimpse of Thailand’s gentle culture amidst the bustle of a great and dynamic metropolis. Bangkok’s identity is a heated blend of modernity, tradition, spirituality, rabid capitalism.
It is also known as “Krungthep” [กรุงเทพ] meaning ‘the City of Angels’, is ranked as the best city in the world in 2008 by “Travel and Leisure Magazine”.
Bangkok is an interesting city that you could find almost everything like an unreachable luxurious dreamland. From cultural arts, hot shopping deals, scrumptious gourmet to rejuvenating spa, it is a spiritual city as it is comprised of a huge mass of people who are amazingly enthusiastic in what they are doing. Aside from the wide range of commercial products variety, you can easily discover many of those hearty and unique handmade products by the locals from the markets.
Like any other city, there is a devilish side of Bangkok. While these customs take place in the quiet back canals, the broad streets of Silom and Patpong are lined with bright-lights and women in short skirts. Patpong teems with rappers in full bling, hot shot executives sipping overpriced drinks to ambient music, and young girls, seemingly too young to be in the trade, walking the streets with numbers on their shoulders designated by their assigned bar or hotel. After one tuk-tuk ride down the tree-lined street, the warm oriental breeze blowing through one’s hair, it is easy to see how one can be addicted to this city for both its purity and its sins.
