#5 – Bold and Fiery Scenes ~ Jeju Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival

Image : Jeju Fire Festival is held once a year at Jeongwol Daeboreum and you will witness the crowd walking towards the hill using their torches to set it on fire. It is truly spectacular sight.

Period : 17^th February – 19^th February 2011
Location : Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Aewol-eup Saebyeol Oreum area

The Jeongwol Daeboreum Fire Festival is a ceremony held once a year on the weekend before the 1^st full moon of the Lunar New Year to pray for health and a good harvest. It was all started by burning the grass to kill insects and somehow it went so huge among the locals and gotten bigger each year. In the event, the Saebyeol Oreum will be set ablaze as a modernized reformation of the traditional farmer rituals in providing good grasses for their livestock.

You can take this opportunity to participate in some folk games, tug of war, traditional singing and kite flying. But most of all, on the final day of the festival, is the stunning fiery sights that you can never forget when the entire hill or oreum is set ablaze.
